Botany section is charged with carrying out ethnobotanical surveys, herbarium specimen preparation and botanical taxonomic identification. It is also involved in conservation of medicinal plants not limited to the following.

  • Documentation and publication of ethnobotanical information.

  • Development and maintenance of ethnobotanical data base.

  • Establishment and maintenance of a herbarium ( for medicine plants )

  • Collection and curation of plant specimens for the herbarium.

  • Scientific identification and collection of plant (medicinal) materials.

  • Botanical and taxonomic identification of plants (medicinal).

  • Development of propagation techniques for  medicinal plants nursery beds.

  • Documentation of management and post-harvest handling practices of medical plants.

  • Establishment and maintenance of botanical gardens in public and private places or areas
